Technology contributes to an education adapted to an increasingly digitalised society
English Summer S.A.'s 40 years of experience, anecdotes, learning, discoveries and innovations. The objective has always been the same: to provide magic, excitement and interest to students in order to learn English while having fun.
The years go by and our habits, trends and lives change. Educational novelties appear that include new technologies, we receive multiple simultaneous stimuli that encourage us to try new methodologies to educate and learn in a reciprocal and efficient way.
What does technology bring to the classroom?
In our summer camps we are committed to the use of technology as an effective tool to adapt teaching to the digital era. The courses are based on English instruction, but bearing in mind that the classes are a space to enjoy what is being learnt and to enhance the strengths and reinforce the points that each student finds most difficult.
To make the English classes more interactive and enjoyable, the teachers prepare exercises and team work that require the use of tablets and the Internet. In addition, they have a 55-inch television in the classrooms to show examples or practice the audiovisual syllabus, as each grammar lesson is accompanied by its vocabulary through listening, speaking, writing and reading comprehension exercises.
What is the role of the Internet in the classroom?
Our educational methodology is based on the same principles of how children learn their mother tongue. We constantly expose them to situations or conversations in English so that they are curious and feel the need to know words or expressions in order to be able to communicate correctly. Therefore, the Internet is a key element for the research and discovery phase.
We also opt for the cooperative methodology, in which each member of the group takes on a specific role and must interact and work in coordination with the rest of the team. In this case, technology is useful as a support point to show and evaluate the results of the project assigned by the teacher.
Gamification is a valuable resource for creating an atmosphere of concentration and entertainment. These are game dynamics that improve motivation, willpower and discipline, and can be carried out via tablets or among peers.
What are the benefits of ICTs for young people?
Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) are tools that facilitate the preparation of the educational plan and contribute to the correct training of students. In the socio-educational field, ICTs stand out for the different benefits they bring to children and young people, including the following:
- Promote interest in learning English
- Foster digital literacy and competence
- Increase autonomy and self-regulation
- Stimulate the development of critical thinking
- Contribute to the management of teamwork
- Improve access to information bases
In our Tech Camp we experiment with new technologies
Tech Camp is a camp dedicated to science, technology and English. The workshops and dynamics are organised by DYNAMIND Mentes Dinámicas together with language classes with native teachers. The aim of this activity is to promote educational robotics, a discipline that motivates students to become familiar with technology and programming in an interactive way from an early age.
Educational robots help develop basic cognitive skills such as computational thinking, ingenuity and creativity in the participants to create multiple graphic adventures.
During the mornings, they take English classes and in the afternoons, they attend dynamics taught to design, build and operate their own robot, which will have to solve different challenges that will be proposed during the course.
